Whirlpool washer wont drain
The Whirlpool washing machine stopped working half
way. It would wash, but it just wont spin and wont drain. The wife needed
to get the laundry done, and as handy as I may be, I'm no washing machine
repair man. It was the weekend, so I looked up and called an appliance repair
company that worked on weekends, his rates were reasonable, so had him come
out later that afternoon.
The whirlpool washer dryer set I bought was really
the bottom line models, which I don't usually buy, but it was a new house,
and wanted to save money. Anyway, I asked the repair man about what's the
best way to go quality wise. To my surprise, he told me that these bottom
line washer dryer sets are the best way to go. He told me quality is about
the same garbage no matter what brand or model you buy. And if you go with
a higher end washer dryer set, the repairs will just cost more - and that
the computer circuit boards cost hundreds and fail regularly!
Anyway, if you're looking to buy a new washer dryer set, it's something
to think about before you buy. Back to trouble shooting the Whirlpool washer
machine - The repair man poked around the machine for a minute or two and
found the problem.
Any washing machine will have a switch that tells the
machine the lid is closed so it's safe to go into the spin cycle. And of course
the machine drains the tub just before going into the spin cycle. On my washing
machine, the switch was broken at the mount so it always thought the lid was
open, and wouldn't drain or spin.
Well, the repair main replaced it, and everything worked
fine. If I had known it was the switch, I would have manually jimmied the
switch so the washing machine would work until I could purchase a replacement
switch and replace it myself. It didn't look like a quick easy job for someone
un-practiced at getting inside one of these things, because the entire outer
sheetmetal shell has to come off, and I would have had to poke around until
I realized that myself.
But, with what you know now, any guy whos handy with tools should be able
to determine if his washer suffered from the same problem, get it working
manually flipping the switch, and then replace the switch him self after purchasing
a replacement. Hope it helped.
